Chapter 3: It Festers (Page 6)

Reference scene: Mass Effect 3 Siege on The Citadel

Realised I haven't exactly shared the context of this scene so I added a link up top for those that haven't played the game. I decided to continue experimenting with doing the comic page in black and white using only ink. I tried using grey tones but it didn't feel right to me. I was not getting it right. Cell shading is still a tricky form of shading for me to get.

What I was looking to do was to accept the challenge of creating form, texture and gradation using only line and ink splatter. It was very challenging but I enjoyed it. It didn't have the same fire as Page 5 but that's because Page 5 was supposed to be an explosive page whereas this page is supposed to be calmer. I wanted to capture how tired Shepard is - as in physically tired. He's been from one side of The Citadel to the other and has been ducking through churches and buildings and all that - he's tryna keep it together. He's bruised, battered and he just wants to sit down and take a deep breath. Too bad he has to do "leader" stuff and make sure he addresses team's personal feelings but that's what good leaders do...while lounging on a sofa.

UPDATE

So, I decided to circle back and colour the page. To be honest, I wasn't feeling the black and white version and was trying to convince myself that it's fine. It's not. I had to fix that.

Still experimenting with my colouring style.
