Andromeda Chapter 1: Don't Do Anything Stupid (Page 6)

I enjoyed writing this page. I enjoyed capturing that moment when Ryder stops being a smartarse and just humbles himself without the defensive mechanism of humour. That's something that I felt the game did too much of: It had too much Joss Whedon "Ha ha let's give smart remarks and chirps with no sense of appreciation for the gravity of the situation" and not enough appreciation of the gravity of the situation. I couldn't appreciate the stakes because the characters did take them seriously. I think this is one thing that led to the disappointment because, compared to the Original Trilogy, this seemed like they treated the whole situation like a big joke.

To be fair, they did start getting a little serious towards the end - specifically when the Archon hacks Ryder's brain and leaves hm dying in agony (desperately needing a reboot). I think the tone started to balance, a little, there but it was a bit too late. They characters' personalities were set and the lack of connection to them was solidified.

Not everything in dialogue has to be quotable-quote one-liners.
